Carcross, Yukon is the shortened form of Caribou Crossing. That area is the stomping ground for the Southern Lakes Herd. At one time their numbers were so great that they would be moving back and forth across the mountains and the rivers constantly. Due to overhunting by the US military during the war their numbers have dwindled. It is still possible to see them now especially in winter when it is more quiet. The original painting was purchased by a federal cabinet minister.
